Watercolorist Marian Hobbie
About the Artist

Marian is a third generation Colorodoan, born in Denver, where she developed her deep love of nature. She continues to cherish the natural wonders of Colorado, and her previous home in Treasure Cay, Bahamas. Marian has lived in Maggie Valley, North Carolina for five years.

Thrity years ago, Marian began to develop her own unique style as a self-taught textile painter, then expanded to tole painting and landscapes in oil.  In the late 70s, she was drawn to watercolors to capture the wonderful azure blue waters, brightly-colored houses and pastel flowers found in the Bahamas. Her delicate painting style is equally suited to represent the beautiful Smokey Mountain area.

Marian paints lovely flowers, bright landscapes and warm home portraits. Though mainly self-taught, she has taken workshops with various nationally-known artists.

Marian is a member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina, the Blue Ridge Watercolor Society and Haywood County Arts Council, Little Gallery Committee. Her work is on display in galleries and private collections in Colorado, the Bahamas, Florida, Arizona, and North Carolina.
